Article 1: A fixed mindset could be holding you back - here's how to change it
Since I've reading all about growth mindset for the extra credit opportunities in this class, I already know of the advantages of rewarding behaviors and processes versus rewarding achievements. Teaching children that their intelligence and abilities are finite or fixed results in children who hardly try in academia, sports, or even hobbies. A growth mindset allows people to strive for greatness while facing challenges along the way to accomplishing their goals. It is this growth mindset that allows them to continue learning and experience personal growth through life. Personally, I think maintaining a growth mindset is a great tool since it gives me a sense of accomplishment whenever I try something new and succeed through overcoming various challenges.
Article 2: Seven Ways to Crush Self-Doubt in Creative Work
It's no question that everyone has experienced self-doubt at one point or another. It's the phenomenon that prevents us from starting a project because it scares us into believing we'll inevitably fail and waste our valuable time and resources. Personally, I've doubted my own abilities during my engineering design work, fearful that it won't be good enough or succeed. I end up beating around the bush and procrastinating the tasks that are most important. This article taught me to trust myself whenever I start a project. I went through (almost) four years of engineering school; I should be able to tackle these engineering problems with the skills that I've grown from critical problem solving. Overcoming self-doubt will allow us to try and make mistakes, but it's all about being able to learn from those mistakes and better ourselves in the process. It's a natural part of learning to make mistakes, so we shouldn't let that stop us from doing what we want to do.
